About Cappadocia

Cappadocia (Kapadokya) is a remarkable volcanic landscape in central Türkiye, famous for its fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, underground cities and sunrise hot-air-balloon flights. Based in Nevşehir, in the heart of Cappadocia, Trip Savvy Travel operates as a licensed local travel agency (TÜRSAB DDS-13641), not a reseller. Our tours are designed and delivered by professionals who live and work in the region.

Our Cappadocia experiences include two classic full-day routes: the Red Tour, featuring Zelve Open-Air Museum, Uçhisar Castle, Pigeon Valley and Devrent Valley; and the Green Tour, covering Kaymaklı Underground City, Ihlara Valley and Selime Monastery. We also offer half-day, private and small-group tours, sunrise hot-air-balloon flights, ATV and horseback-riding experiences, and cultural activities such as the Whirling Dervishes ceremony. Tours include hotel pickup from key locations across Cappadocia, including Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos and Nevşehir, along with instant booking confirmation and a PDF voucher by email.

Cappadocia can be visited throughout the year. Hot-air balloons fly on most mornings when weather conditions permit, while the region’s valleys and cave hotels take on a different character in every season—golden in autumn, green in spring and snow-covered in winter. Most visitors spend two or three days here, allowing time for a balloon flight, the Red and Green Tour routes, and independent exploration of Göreme and Uçhisar.

How to get to Cappadocia

Cappadocia is served by two airports: Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV), about 35–45 minutes from Göreme, and Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR), about 60–75 minutes away. Both have regular flights from Istanbul, and Kayseri also has more frequent connections from other Turkish cities. We offer private and shared airport transfers from both airports to any hotel in the region.

Best time to visit Cappadocia

April–June and September–October offer the mildest weather and the highest hot air balloon flight rate. July–August is hot but reliable for flying. Winter (December–February) is quieter and colder, with occasional snow that makes for dramatic balloon photos, though flights are cancelled more often due to wind.

Top things to do in Cappadocia

  • Hot air balloon ride at sunrise - the single most-searched Cappadocia experience; book at least 2–3 days ahead in high season.

  • Göreme Open-Air Museum - a UNESCO World Heritage site with painted rock-cut Byzantine churches.

  • Underground cities - Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı, multi-level cities carved to shelter thousands of people.

  • Valley hikes - Pigeon Valley, Love Valley, Rose Valley and Ihlara Valley all offer walkable trails through fairy-chimney landscapes.

  • Uçhisar Castle - the highest point in the region, with panoramic views across Cappadocia.

  • Avanos pottery workshops and Ürgüp wine tasting - for a slower, cultural day.

Practical tips

Wear comfortable shoes - most tours involve walking on uneven volcanic rock. Balloon flights depend on wind conditions and can be postponed at short notice for safety; book tours that include free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance. Cave hotels in Göreme and Uçhisar sell out first in balloon season (April–October), so book accommodation early.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cappadocia

Most first-time visitors combine a sunrise hot air balloon ride with the Red Tour (Zelve Open-Air Museum, Uçhisar Castle, Pigeon Valley) on one day and the Green Tour (Kaymaklı Underground City, Ihlara Valley) on the next, which covers the region's main highlights in two days.
Half-day and full-day group tours (Red Tour, Green Tour) typically range from €40–€70 per person. Hot air balloon rides range from roughly €150–€220 depending on basket size and flight duration. Private tours and ATV/horseback experiences vary by group size and duration.
2–3 days is enough to fit in one balloon flight, both the Red and Green Tour routes, and time to walk around Göreme and Uçhisar. Travelers who also want pottery workshops, wine tasting or extra valley hikes often stay 4 days.
Yes, Cappadocia is a well-established, tourist-friendly region with licensed guides and operators. Hot air balloon operators are regulated and cancel flights when wind conditions are unsafe rather than fly regardless.
Balloons fly most mornings year-round, weather permitting. April–June and September–October have the highest flight-completion rates thanks to calmer winds; summer is reliable but hotter, and winter has more weather-related cancellations.
Hot air balloon rides should be booked at least 2–3 days ahead in high season (April–October) since capacity is limited. Red Tour and Green Tour group departures can usually be booked the day before, but private tours and specific hotel pickup times are more reliable if booked earlier.
Hot air balloon flights depend on wind and weather conditions, and operators cancel rather than fly when it isn't safe. If your flight is cancelled, you're normally offered a place on the next available flight or a refund — check the specific cancellation terms on the balloon tour's own page before booking.
Most visitors do the Red Tour first: it stays close to Göreme and covers the Open-Air Museum, Uçhisar Castle, Pigeon Valley and Devrent Valley with less driving. The Green Tour ranges further out to Derinkuyu Underground City and the Ihlara Valley, so it works well as a second, slightly longer day once you're settled in.
Yes — most visitors don't rent a car. The Red Tour and Green Tour, balloon flights, and airport transfers all include hotel pickup from Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp, Avanos or Nevşehir, and Göreme's town centre is walkable on foot.
Derinkuyu is the larger and deeper of the two, with more levels open to visitors, and is the one included on the Green Tour. Kaymaklı is shallower and its passages are wider, which some visitors who are uneasy in tight spaces find more comfortable.
Yes — snow on the fairy chimneys is one of the most photographed scenes in Cappadocia, and winter (December–February) has the fewest crowds and lowest hotel rates. The trade-off is that hot air balloon flights are cancelled more often due to wind, so build a little flexibility into your schedule if a balloon ride is a priority.
Göreme is the most central option, walkable, with the largest choice of cave hotels. Uçhisar is quieter with the best panoramic views from its castle, still a short drive from Göreme. Ürgüp is a little further out but has a livelier town centre with more restaurant options — all three are covered by hotel pickup on our tours.
About 35–45 minutes by road. We offer private and shared transfers from NAV to any hotel in the Cappadocia region.
About 60–75 minutes by road. Kayseri tends to have more frequent domestic connections than Nevşehir Kapadokya, and we offer transfers from ASR as well.
Most balloon operators in Cappadocia set a minimum age for safety and insurance reasons, commonly around 6 years old, though this varies by operator. Check the age policy listed on the specific balloon flight's tour page before booking for young children.
