Overview

Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe Tour: 3 Days Through 12,000 Years of Human Civilisation

Some journeys go beyond sightseeing. The Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe Tour is one of them. In three days and approximately 1,200 kilometres, this private tour connects three of the most extraordinary and historically significant places in Anatolia: Gobeklitepe, the world's oldest temple; Mount Nemrut, where a king of the ancient Commagene Kingdom built a funerary monument to himself among colossal stone gods at an altitude of 2,134 metres; and Sanliurfa, the city of Prophet Abraham, with its sacred pools, ancient bazaars and the ruins of Harran - the world's oldest continuously inhabited settlement. This is Turkey beyond the mainstream tourist trail, and it is unlike anything else in the country.

Day 1: The Road from Cappadocia to Nemrut

Your Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe Tour begins with an early morning hotel pickup in Cappadocia. The route passes through Kayseri and includes a stop at Karatayhan, a beautifully preserved 13th-century Seljuk caravanserai - a reminder that this road was once the beating heart of Anatolian trade. A scenic tea break at Tekir Valley, with its dramatic gorge and river scenery, breaks the journey before your afternoon arrival in Kahta, the base town for Mount Nemrut. An early dinner and an early night are strongly recommended: the alarm for the Nemrut sunrise is set for 03:00.

Day 2: Nemrut at Dawn, Gobeklitepe at Dusk

The second day of the Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe Tour is the most extraordinary day of the journey. Before dawn, your vehicle climbs towards the summit of Mount Nemrut. After a 25-minute uphill walk in darkness - headlamp essential, the temperature at altitude can be well below zero even in summer - you arrive among the colossal stone heads of kings and gods erected by King Antiochus I of Commagene in the 1st century BC. As the sky lightens and the sun clears the horizon, the limestone heads of Zeus, Apollo, Tyche, Hercules and Antiochus himself are illuminated one by one. This is one of the most dramatic sunrise experiences on earth.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast and rest, the route continues through history. The Cendere Bridge - a Roman-era single-arch bridge standing for 1,800 years - is followed by the Karakus Tumulus, the royal burial mound of the Commagene dynasty. The Ataturk Dam, one of the largest in the Middle East, provides a striking modern counterpoint before the road enters Sanliurfa. After hotel check-in and lunch, the afternoon is devoted to the city's sacred sites: the Cave of Prophet Abraham, Balikligol - where legend tells that the fire into which the Prophet was thrown turned into a pool of fish - and the ancient mud-brick beehive houses and Crusader-era castle of Harran. The day ends at Gobeklitepe as the sun sets over the world's oldest temple: 12,000 years old, predating the Egyptian pyramids by 7,000 years, and the site that forced a complete rewriting of human prehistory. Dinner is a traditional sira gecesi experience in Sanliurfa.

Day 3: Birecik and the Return to Cappadocia

The third day begins with a short drive from Sanliurfa to Birecik, a town on the Euphrates River with an unexpected claim to fame: it is one of the last refuges of the Northern Bald Ibis, one of the world's rarest birds. A visit to the captive breeding farm gives a close encounter with these extraordinary creatures before the long return journey to Cappadocia begins. The route through the Taurus Mountains provides one of Anatolia's most scenic drives, with a tea break en route. Hotel or airport drop-off in Cappadocia marks the end of one of the most historically rich private tours available in Turkey.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cappadocia Nemrut Gobeklitepe Tour is a 3-day, 2-night private tour departing from and returning to Cappadocia. The route covers Mount Nemrut (sunrise at the summit), Sanliurfa (Cave of Prophet Abraham, Balikligol), Harran and Gobeklitepe - some of the most historically significant archaeological sites in Turkey. All accommodation, meals, entrance fees and transfers are included.
The tour is 3 days and 2 nights. It begins with an early morning hotel pickup in Cappadocia on Day 1 and ends with hotel or airport drop-off in Cappadocia on Day 3.
The price includes 2 nights accommodation (1 night in the Kahta/Nemrut area, 1 night in Sanliurfa), all transfers by private vehicle, a specialist tour guide, 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 2 dinners, all entrance fees (Nemrut, Gobeklitepe, Harran, Cendere), the pre-dawn Nemrut expedition, travel insurance and all local taxes and service charges.
This is an entirely private tour. The vehicle, guide and programme are dedicated exclusively to your group. You will not share with other travellers.
The climb from the car park to the summit is approximately 25 minutes uphill on a rocky path and takes place in darkness before dawn. It requires moderate fitness. Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots and warm layers are essential. The path is manageable for most adults but is not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations.
The summit of Mount Nemrut is at 2,134 metres. Even in July and August the temperature at dawn can be close to zero or below. You must bring: warm layers (fleece or down jacket), a beanie, gloves, a windproof outer layer, and comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. A headlamp or flashlight is also essential for the pre-dawn climb.
April to June and September to October are the most comfortable months. July and August are very hot at lower altitudes (Sanliurfa regularly exceeds 40°C in summer). From November to March the Nemrut summit road may be closed due to snow, making the sunrise visit impossible.
Gobeklitepe is approximately 18 km from Sanliurfa city centre and is easily reached by private vehicle in around 20-25 minutes.
The main sacred sites in Sanliurfa are the Cave of Prophet Abraham (believed to be his birthplace) and Balikligol (the Pool of Sacred Fish), where legend holds that the fire into which the Prophet was thrown turned into water. Both sites are peaceful, historically resonant and deeply meaningful to visitors of all backgrounds.
Gobeklitepe is approximately 600 km from Cappadocia by road, making a day trip impractical. The 3-day private tour is designed to make the most of the journey and include all the major archaeological sites of the region in a single, well-organised programme.
The tour involves very early starts (03:00 on Day 2), a physically demanding pre-dawn climb at altitude and long driving distances. It is more suitable for older children (12+) and adults. Families with young children should contact us in advance to discuss alternatives.
Free cancellation is available up to 14 days before the tour start date.
You can book directly on our website with instant confirmation, or reserve via WhatsApp. We accept all major credit cards through iyzico, bank transfer/EFT and YapiKredi payment link.
